Al-lēb: Speaking to the Heart
It is a rare thing in ministry to find a space where nothing is demanded of you, and everything is offered for your restoration. This retreat is designed to be that space.
An Invitation to Rest: Al-lēb
To the weary shepherd: we invite you to All Saints Cathedral on Saturday, May 30th, for a day that is less about "input" and entirely about rest and encounter. Our theme, Al-lēb, comes from the Hebrew promise in Hosea:
"Therefore, behold, I will allure them, and bring them into the wilderness, and speak to their hearts". (Hosea 2:14)
In the Hebrew context, to speak al-lēb is to speak "upon the heart" —it is the intimate, grounding language of a being spoken to by a deep and loving friend."
Retreat registration is $50.00 and will include Breakfast and Lunch.
(If anybody needs help with the registration fee, please let Bishop Drew know)
For those travelling a long distance, we will do our best to help with overnight accommodation - please reach out to Bishop Drew's executive assistant, Lauren Moreno (lauren.moreno@adne.org)
We are very much hoping that all clergy in the diocese will be able to attend, if you are unable please reach out directly to Bishop Drew.
What to Expect
We have structured our time to prioritize silence, listening, and rest. You can expect:
· Unstructured Reflection: Multiple windows for personal reflection to identify where your heart has become "armored" or "heavy".
· One-on-One Prayer: Bishops Drew, Bill, and Trevor will be available throughout the day for 1:1 prayer and soul-care, providing a safe space to name the "clutter of the soul" and receive Jesus’ healing and encouragement.
· A Rhythm of Grace: From a meditative walk along the Powow River to an unhurried lunch, every moment is intended to help you "walk with" the word the Lord is speaking to you.
· Healing and Sending: We will conclude with a Closing Eucharist led by Bishop Bill, featuring extended time for anointing and healing prayer.
At last, here is a day where you do not have to lead, manage, or solve. Come and be the "beloved child," sit by the river, and allow Jesus to reclaim the ground of your heart.
