Bishop Andrew Ordains Two Vocational Deacons at All Saints Cathedral

On April 1st, following the spring meetings of the Diocesan Discernment Committee, Bishop Andrew ordained Scott Purswell and Molly Holleran as vocational deacons at All Saints Cathedral. Anglicans recognize three orders of ordained clergy: deacons, priests, and bishops. Within this tradition, the Church recognizes two categories of deacons – transitional and vocational. Transitional deacons are those who serve in that order for a period of time (most often, a year) in preparation for ordination to the priesthood. Vocational deacons, also sometimes known as permanent deacons, remain deacons for the entire time of their ministry.

Deacon Scott will serve at All Saints Cathedral, where he has been a leader for 18 years. Deacon Molly will continue to serve at Brownsville Community Church in Brownsville VT, where she has been an active leader since 2020. In the course of welcoming them into the diocese, Bishop Andrew asked the leaders of our strategic priority areas to pray individually for each of them. Josh Vanada also read a letter of welcome from the Standing Committee.

Bishop Andrew reflected, “It was a joy to ordain Molly and Scott to the diaconate. They have both served faithfully and wholeheartedly in their respective churches. Their faithful service has come from a deep love of Jesus and a fervent love of His church and His mission. I have a great sense of expectation for them both and look forward to seeing what the Lord has next for them as He grows them into their ordained servant roles.”

Please join us in welcoming them into their new ministries among us!
