St. Peters Enjoys Annual “Church Outside the Building” & Family Sports Gala

You may recall by the grace of God, St. Peter's Anglican Church was able to purchase a building in Winchester, MA last year… but that doesn’t mean worship must remain in the building!

Every year, this congregation conducts a service outside the church walls and fills the day with sports activities, from races to various tournaments. The Rev. Amos Kimera, rector of St. Peter’s, explains why this annual event is special:

This is one of the most attended services as members invite their friends and family to a service packed with praise and worship, preaching, and food, and it is crowned with various sports activities. We intentionally plan to involve the young and the old in all activities, especially during sports, so children compete with their parents in sports like football, sack, and egg races. It is a time of family interaction and bonding; some call it a “family Sunday.” Children cherish these moments, and as a church, we intentionally disciple children who will take on the mantle of serving God and, hence, inherit God's kingdom.  We also see newcomers coming to church, and this is an opportunity for evangelism.

He added, “this year's games were unique because we celebrated 18 years of St. Peter's existence! The theme was from Psalm 138:8: ‘The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.’ As a church, we have seen this come true because, in 18 years, we have seen significant growth in our Church. We now have a home of our own, which has been our prayer for many years, but finally, God answered us. This Sunday, September 15th, 2024, we shall have a thanksgiving service for God's goodness and faithfulness to us as a church.
