On Saturday, June 1st, Bridges of Hope, a collaborative of New Haven area churches, organized a city-wide service day in New Haven, CT.

Since 2015, Bridges of Hope’s annual I Heart New Haven Day has served at over 280 community sites, including public schools, public housing complexes, local non-profits, as well as the homes of individuals who could use a helping hand. All Nations Church, led by the Rev. Geoff Little, is a member church of Bridges of Hope and joined the service efforts. Rev. Geoff also serves as the collaborative’s current president.

The event began with corporate worship on the New Haven Green with over 500 people in BOH blue t-shirts declaring the power and goodness of God over their city: “King Jesus, no other Name; King Jesus, none stronger; we can call on You. Things change, yes, when we call on Your Name.” The 500-strong crowd then went out across the city to serve in the Name of Jesus.

When Bishop Andrew heard about this service day and Rev. Geoff’s involvement, he reflected, “This is such a powerful and spiritually deep witness to the enduring love of Jesus over New Haven. It is no surprise that Rev. Geoff Little is serving as President for the Bridges of Hope collaborative. Geoff and his wife, Blanca, have given their lives in service to this city. Through the church and school they lead, so many lives have been healed and transformed by Jesus. To witness all of those young people and Christian leaders, as a sea of blue sweeping across the city, mobilized together as an outpouring of God’s love – what a sight! This move of God is a visible testimony to Geoff and Blanca’s heart to be Jesus’ agents of unity, peace in the power of His Gospel.”

Bridges of Hope’s mission is to mobilize ministry and to transform the city of New Haven for the glory of God and the common good of its people. They do this via a radical and sustainable partnership of Christ-centered churches, word-and-deed ministries, and private foundations, cooperating with individuals and institutions of all faiths and none for the common good when consistent with Christ’s values. As an organization, Bridges of Hope is also committed to the work of racial reconciliation in and through participating churches and Bridges of Hope ministries.
