Brian Barry wasn’t looking to start a new chapter of life and ministry, but in late 2019, the assistant rector of Christ the Redeemer, Danvers received a new and unexpected invitation to dream. He describes the experience as, “we went from exercising contentment to having permission to imagine something else.” The result of that dreaming is what the Barrys have discerned to be their purpose in Brookline: “inviting children into a joy-filled, healing environment where every child may know what it means to be deeply treasured and freely loved by this house of hospitality and prayer.”

Read MoreIn his devotional for January 1, Bishop Andrew Williams began 2020 by quoting poet Minnie Louise Haskins, “‘And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year: ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.’ And he replied: ‘Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.’” When we passed through that gate into a new year of mission and ministry, we could not have foreseen the many circumstances and challenges that would face us, but as we look back over the last 12 months, we can see the truth: the Hand of God did lead us, protect us, comfort us, and unite us…
